Recommended Gear

I have spent hundreds of hours trying out and testing the best tech gear on the market. These items are thoroughly enjoyed, my personal favorites, and are highly recommended over similar gear, if any, in their shopping categories:

As a side note: these items are not always the highest-end wallet busters. My goal on this page is to only provide honest recommendations for gear that is priced really well while still maintaining high-quality standards. This is the stuff I believe you should own hands down.

Sony WH-1000XM3 Wireless Over Ear Noise Cancelling Headphones

Sony wh 1000xm3 gizbuyer guide top recommended wireless noise cancelling headphone 2020

I absolutely have to start with this recommendation first. There’s no question that these are my ultimate favorite headphones that I use for pretty much anything, including for gaming! They are comfortable enough to wear, without breaks, throughout long multi-hour workdays. And I honestly don’t think twice about how much battery life is left in these at the end of each listening session as it provides near an anxiety-free 30 hours, even with noise cancelling enabled.

Speaking of which, the noise cancellation technology in the XM3s are so good that they can zero out repetitive noises, especially during air travel with loud airplane engines. All this while preserving high quality sound that’s best described as clear and true to source. The free included Adaptive EQ iOS and Android app allow sound to be customized even more, which is truly an awesome touch by Sony engineers.

Apple AirPods Pro

For days that I don’t feel like wearing a larger over ear headphone, or want to travel or workout with something a bit smaller, I continually find myself turning to my AirPods Pro.

There’s actually a bit of a back story to how I ended up owning these AirPods Pro wireless earbuds (and my first ever pair of AirPods), but I promise I’ll keep it short: I was always originally a Beats Powerbeats fan, as I liked the style, feel, and convenience they provided.

However, after purchasing the latest pair of Powerbeats Pro a few months ago… I ended up returning them after giving them a few weeks of good wearable trial. For reference, I have smaller ears, and the reason for return was that the Powerbeats Pro had a tighter, less secure, and bulkier feel than with past generations…

That’s when I decided to jump ship and try out their corporate cousin: the Apple AirPods Pro. And I’m really happy I did. Not only are they much smaller while charging wirelessly in their case, but they have a way better seal in my ear, allowing its straight and true sound quality to shine even more. An Apple earbud’s first noise cancellation feature sweetens the deal even more.

Like the XM3s, I also find myself picking these up for pretty much any task that requires some form of listening, and even carry the compact case in my pocket so that I can keep them charged through a whole day of jamming. Asking Siri hands-free to read my texts, turn the volume up, and add fresh songs to my playlist is a cool plus.

Apple MacBook Pro 16 Inch i7 Base Model

Apple MacBook Pro 16 Inch top best recommended laptop gizbuyer guide

Having owned this laptop for a few months now, and upgrading from the MacBook Air, I am truly blown away at just how much Apple beefed up this MacBook Pro, now in a fresh, new, and noticeably larger 16 inch display size.

You’ll probably notice that Apple, and other retailers for that matter, will market the MacBook Pro 16 inch as the laptop choice for audio, visual, and graphic design professionals, as it can handle the extra computing power that their careers demand. However, I would argue that this is a fantastic all-arounder model regardless of what your needs require.

In the past I would expect to spec out a MacBook or Mac order sheet that would add more than the standard edition so that it could handle even modest saves and workloads. But times have certainly changed, and this is the first time that I am more than happy with how much comes out of the box with the 16 inch Pro in just its base model, which is the spec that I personally own.

Including a true 2.6 GHz Intel i7 (now pumped up to 6-core!) that can boost itself to well above 3GHz, a refreshing 500GB of SSD storage, and a whopping 16 GB of RAM that’s enough to put my old MacBook Air absolutely in the dust, and even doubles many smaller current 13 inch Pro specs, these were all more than enough reasons for me to call it time and make the upgrade to this MacBook Pro 16 inch. And you most definitely should too.
